Time commitment: low
Money potential: small
Risk: Very Low
Not Guranteed
The internet is swarming with sweepstakes and contests of luck or of little skill. Some are for money, some are for valuable products, and some are for fake money to buy real products. Although I wrote "small" for money potential, there is great variability here. Obviously, there are some contests that boast prizes with huge dollar potentials. But, as a poor guy, I am only interested the most likely outcome.
You can Google "sweepstakes" or "contest" and get millions of hits (try it). The truth is that so many companies and websites are trying to get page views, Facebook "likes", and to get their products out there they are willing to give valuables away for free to do it.
At this point in my research of this topic, I have only had success through a small number of Facebook contests. Not very impressive.
There are many websites, forums, Facebook pages, and twitter accounts that claim to be valuable resources for finding good contests and I am still in the process of evaluating which ones are actually worthwhile. At this point there are two sweepstakes "watchdogs" that I think are worth following:
the About.com Sweepstakes Facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/aboutsweepstakes?v=app_4949752878
and the Sweepstakes Facebook App
http://apps.facebook.com/sweepstakeshq/?ref=bookmarks&count=0
If you are serious about entering a bunch of sweepstakes everyday just those two tools will keep you busy for hours. They both lists several/hundreds of sweepstakes every day that take little more than the click of a mouse to enter. However, I have yet to win anything through either. If and when I do I will update this post.
I have won valuable prizes by following on Facebook the fan pages for STA Travel (Student Travel Agency)
http://www.facebook.com/#!/STATravel
and CollegeTimes Magazine (a Phoenix, AZ area Magazine).
http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/College-Times/104015558168
If you are not following these you should start immediately (although if you are not in the Phoenix, AZ area you may not be eligible for some of the CollegeTimes Magazine prizes). For the most part the contests reward the first person to comment on a wall post so you have to be logged into Facebook frequently to be eligible for these.

Action: Join CollegeTimes Magazine and STA Travel Facebook pages by "liking" them. Be ready to comment on their posts at a moments notice.
